Ingredients for Flavor
Milk Chocolate
We use milk chocolate in our Dulce de Leche Milano® cookies to deliver that classic milk chocolate taste.
Semi Sweet Chocolate
We use semi sweet chocolate in many of our Milano® cookies to deliver that signature chocolate taste.
Sugar
We use granulated sugar to help enhance the sweetness of our Milano® cookies. Sugar is a common ingredient in baking and helps to also develop the golden brown color on the biscuit.
Natural flavors
A common term for flavors which give products their distinctive tastes. Natural flavors, oils or extracts can be derived from a wide range of foods such as fruits, vegetables and herbs. We choose natural flavors in order to avoid using artificial flavors.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is used in our Mint and Candy Cane Milano® cookies to help deliver the signature mint taste. It is made from the peppermint plant and is a common ingredient in such things as tea, chewing gum, and candy canes.
Dehydrated Raspberries
Dehydrated raspberries are used in our Raspberry Chocolate Milano® cookies.
Flavor Layer
Our flavor layers are made from cocoa, vegetable oils, and natural flavors. We use a variety of these to help add flavor to many of our Milano® varieties such as Raspberry Chocolate and Mocha Chocolate.
Ingredients for Texture
Eggs
Eggs are used in our Milano® cookies to help combine ingredients, add natural color and provide a distinct texture.
Egg Whites
Egg whites are used in to help obtain the airy texture of our Milano® cookies and to help strengthen the dough.
Enriched Wheat Flour
The flour is enriched with essential nutrients: niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2) and folic acid. The flour we use is made from soft red winter wheat grown in the in the US and Canada.
Ingredients for Leavening
Baking Soda
We use Baking Soda to help the Milano® cookies rise in the oven.
Ingredients for Color
Annatto
Is used in our Salted Caramel, Dulce de Leche Milano® cookies, and Pumpkin Spice Milano® cookies to help provide the brown and orange colors. The coloring is extracted from the reddish seeds of the achiote tree, which grows in tropical climates.
Blue Anthocyanin
Is used in our Salted Caramel Milano® cookies. This color is used with Annatto to help provide a light brown color. This color is a pigment that is derived from plants.
Caramel color
This is used in our Dulce de Leche Milano® cookies to help bring out the brown color in combination with Annatto. It is derived from sugar through a type of caramelization process.
Turmeric Extract
This is used in our Lemon Milano® cookies. Turmeric is a spice that helps to enhance the color of our lemon chocolate compound and generates a yellow pigment.
Beta carotene
A pigment that gives carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkins their orange color. When added to food, it adds a yellow or orange color. Your body converts beta carotene to Vitamin A. This is used in our Banana Chocolate Milano® cookies to provide the yellow hue.
Red 40 Lake
Our Candy Cane Milano® cookies contain Red 40 lake, which is an artificial food color used in the candy cane coating.
