Prego® Farmers’ Market™ sauces are made with ingredients like those you would find at your local farmers’ market. Simple recipes with fantastic, quality ingredients.

Key Ingredients

Tomatoes

We choose vine-ripened tomatoes and use a mixture of diced tomatoes and tomato puree to create rich sauce with a robust flavor.

Olive oil

We use olive oil to create an authentic Italian flavor.

Garlic

Garlic gives our sources an authentic Italian flavor. We make a roasted garlic variety as it add a sweetness to the tomato sauce.

Ingredients for Flavor


Cane sugar

We add sugar to balance the tartness of the tomatoes.  We selected cane sugar which is non-GMO.

Basil and oregano

Basil and oregano are essential herbs in any Italian recipe.

Salt and black pepper

We take great care to make sure our sauces are perfectly seasoned.

Other Ingredients


Citric acid

We add citric acid to control the acidity of the sauce and make sure it’s shelf stable and safe. The citric acid we use is made from sugar beets, which may be genetically modified.  We are transitioning to a citric acid made from cane sugar which is not genetically modified.

THE STORY OF PREGO FARMERS’ MARKET

Prego Farmers’ Market was created by a passionate team of chefs and foodies.  They visited local farmers’ markets, bought thousands of different types of tomatoes and made dozens of different recipes before landing on a sauce with the perfect texture, flavor and aroma.

OUR PACKAGING AND BPA

We understand that some people would prefer to avoid bisphenol A (BPA), although FDA has determined that it’s safe to use in food packaging. Historically, BPA has been used in food packaging to line metal cans and to preserve the food’s taste and its nutritional value.

PET bottles, pouches and cartons such as those used for V8® beverages, Swanson® broths and Campbell’s sauces are (and have always been) non-BPA packaging.

Campbell has transitioned to non-BPA lining in all of our aluminum and steel cans in the United States and Canada.

The containers of a few other products have metal components that have limited food contact points but are key to ensuring that the lids remain tight. BPA is used as a coating on that metal but in small amounts and we continue to work on packaging alternatives.

PACKAGING

Prego Farmers’ Market sauces are packaged in glass mason jars, which are 100% recyclable and may contain around 30% recycled glass.

The metal lids currently use a coating which contains BPA.  This coating helps keep the food safe.  We are currently in the process of transitioning away from using BPA, and by mid-2017 our metal lids will use an acrylic coating.
